Lona-Akoni Hudson Sentenced to 25 Years in Prison for 2022 Fatal Shooting in Lloyd District

November 6, 2023

Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt announced today that a Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge sentenced Lona-Akoni Hudson, 30, to 25 years in prison for the fatal shooting of Jacob Dreyer, 38, in early 2022.

Incident

On Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 7:12 p.m., officers from the Portland Police Bureau were dispatched to a report of a shooting in a parking garage at 1075 NE 2nd Avenue. When officers arrived they found a male victim deceased from an apparent gunshot wound to the head in the driver’s seat of a car. Through their investigation, PPB detectives learned that the victim (later identified as Jacob Dreyer) and the suspect had arranged to meet for a drug transaction. A witness who was in the backseat of the victim’s car stated that the suspect, later identified as Lona-Akoni Hudson, shot the victim and then searched the victim’s pockets. The suspect then fled the scene.

An arrest warrant was issued, and Portland Police, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service, Vancouver Police Department, and the Southwest Regional SWAT, arrested Hudson on March 7. He was booked into custody in Multnomah County. The case was presented to a grand jury, who returned a true bill of indictment on March 15, 2022, for one count of Murder in the First Degree with a Firearm one count of Robbery in the First Degree, and one count of Unlawful Use of a Weapon with a Firearm.

Plea and Sentencing

Deputy District Attorney Kristen Kyle-Castelli represented the state in this case. As part of a global resolution involving two other investigations, Hudson pled guilty on November 1 to one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree with a Firearm and one count of Robbery in the First Degree.

Judge Angela Lucero accepted the plea and imposed the 25-year prison sentence on November 1. Hudson was transferred from custody in Multnomah County to the Oregon Department of Corrections to serve his sentence.

The DA’s Office thanks the PPB detectives and officers who assisted with this case.
